May 31, 2023

The entire journey from the moment the diamond was unearthed to becoming an engagement ring worn on your finger requires quite a few steps.

The entire journey takes approximately 5 steps. Among them, Showfay will delve into the process of cutting in depth and detail, as it transforms gray rough diamonds into sparkling and charming diamonds, making it irresistible to set them on engagement rings.

NO1. Plan. Developing a cutting plan is a crucial step as it will define the final cutting outcome of the diamond. The plan includes maximizing the value of rough diamonds by selecting the shape that best suits market sales needs. Secondly, studying the cutting method that can obtain the maximum weight of diamonds, as there is an average weight loss of 50% when cutting diamonds, and the diamond industry calculates the value of diamonds in carats. Thirdly, cutting can affect color grading, so certain shapes must be used during cutting to enhance the color of the diamond.

NO2. Cut or saw open. In this step, the rough diamond is cut into different parts by laser or mechanical saw.

NO3. Shaping. Once the rough diamond prototype is cut open, the technician can start polishing the diamond, grinding the original stone into a circular shape. Two diamonds are respectively fixed on a rotating axis. Then, as they rotate very quickly from the opposite direction, they rub against each other, forming a rough circle.

NO4. Polishing. Once the diamonds are polished into rough circles, the craftsmen begin the polishing process, using robotic arms and turntables to grind out every small cut of the diamond. This process actually includes two steps, engraving the main surface and polishing. The main face is to fix the upper and lower parts of the diamond, add 16 upper facets such as a countertop, and a fixed pointed bottom. Polishing is the process of grinding out all the facets on the lower part of a diamond, thereby turning the round diamond into a finished diamond with 58 complete facets.

NO5. Check. This is the final stage of the entire process. It is very important that the diamond meets the quality monitoring standards of the diamond manufacturer, and if there are any imperfections, they need to be returned to the polishing technician for rework.

Now, I believe you cherish diamonds even more because you know the various steps required to transform the diamonds on your wedding ring from their original state to the perfect diamond.
