Otto Jakob Tettix grasshopper gold earrings

Aug 28, 2022
Set with tsavourite, yellow and brown diamonds, vitreous enamel, Plique-à-jour enamel and lacquered lacquered craft, the base is made of gold.

The Tettix earrings, introduced in 2020 by German jeweler Otto Jakob, have appeared at the European Art and Antiques Fair (TEFAF Maastricht). The designers used their imagination to incorporate insect-inspired elements into their work, using superb enamel techniques to create a pair of light and thin grasshopper wings.

Otto Jakob's design was inspired by the giant grasshopper that lives in Malaysia, "Macrolyristes corporalis", whose wings are as turquoise as leaves, making them the perfect camouflage in the jungle, and the name "Téttix" in Greek means "grasshopper".

These earrings are designed in the shape of hanging wings that mimic the irregular contours that are naturally formed. The surface of the "wings" is depicted in a clear green tone with enamel, with a slender golden pattern, full of natural vitality; The pink details on the flanks of the wings use the Plique-à-jour enamel process to create a lightweight texture as thin as a cicada's wing.

The gold stud earrings are designed in a dexterous pod shape with yellow and brown diamonds, and the articulated structure extends below to naturally connect with the wing pendant, and the tsavorite in bright green tones naturally contrasts with the green enamel.
