Van Cleef & Arpels Van Cleef & Arpels Saturn diamond brooch

Aug 30, 2022

Set with round and baruch cut diamonds, the setting is made of white and yellow gold.

Van Cleef & Arpels launched this Saturn brooch in the 2021 fine jewelry collection "Sous Les Etoiles", inspired by Saturn, the second largest planet in the solar system, and the designers used a combination of gold carvings and different cut diamondsCleverly shape the planetary ring scene unique to the earth star.

Saturn's planetary rings are made up of "Water ice" and trace amounts of dustforming a bright and moving ring reflected by sunlight. It was not until 1655 that the complete rings of Saturn were first observed, and scientists have so far failed to confirm the cause of this magnificent phenomenon, which has also brought more romantic meaning to the jewelry theme.

The Brooch's Saturn body is made of gold and shaped through "crepe goldwork" to create an undulating surface of the planet, with a realistic and shimmering texture – a traditional craft that is mostly seen in Van Cleef & Arpels' jewelry works from the 1960s to the 1970s. The surface of the planet is scattered with platinum-encrusted round diamonds, like the mist rising from Saturn's surface.

Saturn's outer ring is three sets of slender diamond planetary rings, the outermost of which is made of round diamonds and lined with a delicate prong-set base; The middle circle lays out diamonds of different sizes in a track made of white gold, and the gold trims on the side edges symbolize the bright light of the planetary rings; The inner ring is set with round and baguette diamonds, giving the piece a visual layering.
