Brand profile

Cartier SA is a French watch and jewellery manufacturer founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier. In 1874, his son Alfred Cartier succeeded him, and his grandsons Louis-Joseph, Pierre-Camille and Jacques-Théodule developed it into a world-famous brand. It is now part of Compagnie Financière Richemont SA and has around 220 retail outlets worldwide.
Brand history

In 1847, at the age of 28, Louis-François Cartier took over from his master the jewelry workshop at 29 Rue Montorgueil in Paris. Louis-Francois registered Cartier corporation with the initial letters "L" and "C" of his name around a diamond-shaped logo in the shape of a heart. Six years later, Louis-François Cartier launched the brand's first pocket watch.

In 1853 Cartier moved to Rue Neuvedes Petits Champs 5, during this period France was under the rule of Napoleon III, Paris returned to its former glitz, celebrations and balls were daily social events, and the glory of the Second Empire greatly promoted the operation and development of cartier companies. By winning the favor of Napoleon's young cousin, Princess --- Mathilde, Cartier's business grew rapidly and in 1859 it entered 9 Avenida Italiens, the fashion center of the city of Paris.

In 1872, Alfred, the eldest son of Louis-Francois, joined Cartier and established a watchmaking department. In 1874, Louis-François handed over the management of the company to Alfred. In 1899 Cartier took an important step by moving his shop to 13 Ruedela Paix, a high-class commodity center in Paris, which has not been relocated to this day. Alfred then entrusted Cartier's business to his three sons, the cartier brothers Louis, Pierre and Jacques, and established branches in London and New York in 1902 and 1909, respectively, Louis-Joseph remained in Paris to take charge of the main store business, Pierre-Camille went to New York, and Jacques-Théodule managed the London business, which expanded over three generations. Cartier has become a world-renowned jeweler.

King Edward VII of the United Kingdom ordered twenty-seven crowns from Cartier for his coronation in 1902 and in 1904 awarded cartiers a Royal Commission of Appointment, praising him as "the jeweler of the king, the king of the jewelers" (The Jeweller of Kings and the King of Jewellers)。 Since then, Cartier has received letters of appointment from the royal families of Spain, Portugal, Russia, Siam, Greece, Serbia, Belgium, Romania, Egypt and Albania, as well as from the Duke of Orléans and the Principality of Monaco.

In 1973, Cartier launched the Cartier collection, which included lighters, watches, stationery, leather goods, perfumes, table clocks, glasses, and even tableware, named "Lse Must Cartier". In addition to the classic three-ring design, nature's animals such as elephants and birds are also frequent themes in Cartier jewelry. The Panthere jewelry collection, launched in the 1990s, has also become one of Cartier's classics.

Cartier introduced the first women's jewelry watch as early as 1888; In addition, the first men's leather strap watch, the Santos (by Louis Cartier's pilot friend Alberto Santos-Dumont), was officially mass-produced in 1911 and has since become Cartier's classic. In 2001, Cartier established a watch factory in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 2007, Richemont Richemont disclosed the acquisition of Roger Dubuis' movement development and manufacturing department. Cartier's Tourbillon 9452 MC, which received the Geneva seal of Poinçon de Genève in 2008, draws on the proven technology developed by Roger Dubuis in the movement. In the same year, Cartier set up a new watch factory in Geneva and moved the high-complexity series here to produce, while the watch factory originally located in La-Chaux-de-Fonds was used to produce general watches.
