Brand profile

Chopard is a high-end watch and jewellery manufacturer founded in Switzerland in 1860. Its founder, Louis-Ulysee Chopard, founded the brand at the age of 24. Chopard initially focused on manufacturing precision pocket watches and chronographsIn 1963, Karl Scheufele from Germany acquired Chopard, and the Scheufele family also operated their own jewelry and watch company in Pforzheim.

Brand history

The founder of Chopard Watches, Louis-Ulysee Chopard, was born into a peasant family in Switzerland. In 1860, at the age of 24, Louis-Ulysee Chopard founded L.U.C., a watchmaker with his own initials, which produces pocket watches and fine timers. The earliest known Chopin watch is a thick round pocket watch with a silver tuning plate and a beautiful gold and silver wire trim splint, and the glazed dial is bold Roman numerals, with a power reserve of one day. Louis-Ulysee chopard is determined to expand abroad, with customers as far away as Eastern Europe, Russia and Navia.

In 1921, Paul-Louis Chopard, son of Louis-Ulysee Chopard, opened a branch in La Chaus de Fonds and subsequently relocated the company's headquarters there. In 1937, he moved the company to Geneva and increased the number of employees to 150, making it the heyday of Chopard. In 1943, Paul-André Chopard, grandson of Louis-Ulysee Chopard, took over the Chopard brand.

After World War II Chopard production began to decline, Paul-André Chopard's sons had no intention of taking over chopard watch factories, the only solution at that time was to sell the company, so they began to look for a suitable buyer, met Karl Scheufele (a descendant of the German family of watchmaking and jewelry in Pforzheim, Germany) in Geneva, and sold the Chopard company to him.

Scheufele's family business has been producing gemstone-encrusted watches and bracelets since 1904. By 1930, the second generation took over, carrying large boxes full of products and actively developing businesses outside, when the company had more than 100 employees. However, the war later destroyed the factory in Pforzheim, Germany, and the Scheufele family began to rebuild their ancestral business in 1950. It wasn't until the third generation that Scheufele was hampered by the movement manufacturer and desperately wanted to buy his own business, when he met Paul-André Chopard.

Karl Scheufele and his wife Karin have been running the company together, along with their children Karl-Friedrich Scheufele and Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele. The Happy Diamonds watch, launched in 1976, is still the hottest collection today.
